Job summary

AECOM, a global infrastructure firm, seeks a Highways Apprentice in Cardiff. You will support engineers across feasibility to detailed design, gaining hands-on experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and BIM while pursuing professional qualifications.

You will join a multidisciplinary team, develop highway layouts, and contribute to projects for local authorities and other clients in the UK and Ireland. This hybrid role combines on-site and remote work with structured learning.

Qualifications

• Three A-Levels (or equivalent) including Mathematics and a physical science.
• Interest in highway engineering and transport infrastructure.
• Aptitude for technical drawing and engineering design.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
• Permanent right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Prepare highway design drawings and technical documentation using CAD software.
• Develop and deliver highway schemes from feasibility to detailed design.
• Design roads, junctions, and pedestrian/cycle infrastructure.
• Prepare highway layouts complying with design standards.
• Assist with site visits and surveys.
• Analyse data to inform design development.
• Produce technical reports and calculations.
• Use CAD, Civil 3D, and BIM tools in project delivery.
• Maintain project records and support administration.
• Collaborate with engineers and other disciplines.
• Learn highways design standards, health and safety requirements.
• Participate in apprenticeship training.
