Job summary

AECOM invites graduates to join our Highways and Streets practice in Belfast. You’ll work on a range of transport projects from concept to detailing, supported by experienced engineers.

The role emphasizes learning, collaboration and delivering practical, cost‑effective solutions for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. You'll gain hands‑on experience in design, modelling and digital engineering, with structured training and site exposure.

Qualifications

• BEng or above in Civil/General Engineering or Geography with 2:1 or higher.
• MEng in Civil/General Engineering with 2:1 or higher is advantageous.
• MA/MSc in Geography/Transport Planning or related discipline is advantageous.
• Master’s in Mathematics or related quantitative field is also considered.
• Genuine interest in engineering, transport and safe, efficient networks.
• Strong analytical, numerical and problem‑solving skills with technical interpretation.
• Basic proficiency in MS Word and Excel; good writing and communication.
• Willingness to learn and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Support development of designs and technical solutions through project stages.
• Attend site visits, meetings and workshops; collaborate with clients and designers.
• Receive training in software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D and BIM processes.
• Develop understanding of digital engineering and BIM across projects.
• Take on increasing responsibility as experience grows; contribute from inception to completion.
• Work across design tasks including highway, junction, cycle lane and urban improvement projects.
• Assist with feasibility studies, road safety assessments and scheme development.
