Design Engineer (Mechanical / Electrical)

We are recruiting for a Design Engineer (Mechanical / Electrical) to join our client's Engineering Transformation team, providing technical expertise across new and existing lifeboat assets and associated equipment that support our coastal rescue operations.

This is a rare opportunity to work on some of our client's most exciting engineering programmes, including the Mk3 Severn lifeboat, Atlantic-85 upgrade, the new Lifeboat Management System and the Coastal Lifeboat. If you are passionate about engineering that truly saves lives, this role gives you the chance to design, test and deliver real-world solutions used in the harshest marine environments.

The Role

As a Design Engineer, you will play a key part in the design, integration and delivery of our client's assets, systems and equipment. You will work across multidisciplinary engineering teams, supporting everything from concept development through to testing, trials and operational rollout.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the design, integration, testing and rollout of new and upgraded company assets, equipment and systems
  • Ensuring all engineering activity meets cost, risk and performance targets
  • Producing 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, calculations and technical specifications using SolidWorks or equivalent
  • Conducting technical investigations, trials and fault-finding, including visits to lifeboat stations, boatyards and supplier sites
  • Ensuring all designs and modifications comply with company Engineering and Safety processes, maritime regulations and relevant standards
  • Working closely with project managers, IDT leads, OEMs and suppliers to ensure delivery against agreed timescales
  • Supporting research and development projects and continuous improvement initiatives
About You

You will be a confident and collaborative engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems in a fast-paced environment. You will be comfortable working across teams and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical. Your focus will be on delivering safe, innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions in a mission-critical environment.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Working towards, or expecting to achieve, Engineering Council registration at Incorporated Engineer level or higher
  • Knowledge of marine safety standards and regulatory compliance
  • Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word, and CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD
  • Good working knowledge of marine mechanical and or electrical systems such as propulsion and drivelines, diesel engines, fuel systems, sea water systems, hydraulics, navigation, communication and control systems
Desirable

This is not an operational seagoing role, however due to the nature of the position it is desirable that the post holder is capable of going afloat in all sea conditions as required.
