Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) invites applications for a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs. You will support pupils with SEND under the direction of the class teacher, helping access the curriculum and daily routines both in and outside the classroom.

The role requires prior experience in a learning environment, a commitment to safeguarding, and flexibility to support pupils with diverse needs. Training in health and safety and child protection is valued.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification in a relevant area (certificate or diploma).
• Award level is not acceptable.
• Minimum 6 weeks experience in a learning environment or placement.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the support and care of pupils with special educational needs, enabling access to the curriculum.
• Develop understanding of the needs of pupils to be supported.
• Assist with Education Plan/Care Plan and participation evaluation.
• Promote inclusion of pupils in mainstream schools.
• Support with non-invasive medical/clinical needs as required.
• Assist with implementing behaviour management programmes.
• Help pupils move around the school and on/off transport.
