Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils in a school setting. The role involves assisting with SEN pupil access to the curriculum, personal care, and adapting activities under teacher direction.

The post requires a Level 2 qualification and experience in a formal learning environment. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of teaching staff in a collaborative, inclusive setting.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in a relevant area from a recognised accrediting body.
• AND Have a minimum of 6 weeks experience gained in a formal learning environment or as part of your Level 2 qualification placement.
• Essential criteria to be measured at shortlisting stage and during interview.”

Responsibilities

• Assist with specialist classroom support for pupils with special educational needs, enabling access to the curriculum and supporting personal care needs.
• Contribute to inclusion of pupils in mainstream settings under direction of teachers.
• Assist with managing the learning environment, resources, and behaviour support under school policies.
• Provide administrative support, record keeping, and assist with preparation of teaching materials.
• Attend in-service training and support work placement students where required.
