Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs in Lisburn. You will support pupils with SEN to access the curriculum and assist in implementing education plans under teacher guidance.

The role stresses health and safety, safeguarding and a child-centered learning approach, with responsibilities across classroom support, administration and on-site activities. The post emphasises equality and team collaboration.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 2 qualification in a relevant area from a recognised awarding body.
• Minimum of 6 weeks experience in a formal learning environment or through placement.
• OR 12 months’ experience of working in a formal learning environment.
• Health and safety requirements.
• Development needs of children and/or young people.
• Child protection and safeguarding.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the support and care of pupil(s) with special educational needs, enabling access to the curriculum.
• Develop understanding of the specific needs of the pupil(s) to be supported.
• Assist with Education/ Care Plans and participate in evaluation of support.
• Contribute to inclusion of pupil in mainstream schools under direction of teacher.
• Support with basic healthcare, mobility and safety needs as required.
• Assist with administration, resources, and maintaining progress records.
