Job description
Overview

Are you passionate about making a difference in people’s lives? We are seeking dedicated professionals to join our rural Employment team and help empower our patients to achieve their employment goals. This is a full-time, fixed-term 12-month position.

Our Employment Advisors work alongside the service, providing dedicated employment support for people looking to return to work or to retain their current employment. This role focuses on prevention and early intervention to ensure timely access to mental health support as well as suitable employment advice so individuals are supported to avoid long-term unemployment. The post holder will support those with mental health problems to remain in, return to, and gain employment.

This is a fixed-term role; for current NHS staff, the role may be offered on a secondment basis with permission to be released before applying.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of patients, assess their employment needs and goals, and provide tailored, individual employment advice in collaboration with clinical colleagues.
  • Work with Jobcentre Plus, employers, third-sector organisations, and employment agencies to support patients in maintaining or securing employment.
  • Join an established team and contribute a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Participate in training and service experiences to operate effectively in an inclusive, value-driven service.
  • Occasionally conduct face-to-face meetings with patients across Dorset, with hybrid working options available.
  • Have access to a car and be willing to drive across rural Dorset; may require one evening per week work (12:00–20:00).
  • Attend the Wool Dorset office on Wednesdays and Thursdays as part of hybrid arrangements.

There will be opportunities for hybrid working and some travel within Dorset. Most work is conducted over the telephone.

Requirements and Preferences

The programme notes that successful candidates will have a diverse background and may come from administration, career advice, coaching, HR, finance, management, nursing, teaching, or self-employment backgrounds. A detailed job description and person specification are attached for full duties and criteria. Applicants should ensure their supporting statement reflects the criteria in those documents. An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required; the Trust will cover the cost. DBS update service members may present a valid DBS certificate instead of a new check.

Applicants from current NHS service should seek permission for secondment before applying. Applications from candidates requiring current Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK are ineligible.
