Job Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account at HMP Leicester. This role is based on‑site and requires working 1 in 3 weekends on a rota basis, with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary.

At Amey, we support our justice client, His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing safe, clean and efficient prisons. Using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

Responsibilities
  • Planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
  • Diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components.
  • Responding to breakdowns ensuring all works are carried out under the appropriate Safe System of Work in a timely manner.
  • Actively fault finding / problem solving on domestic electrical systems across the prison.
  • Undertaking electrical installation activities in accordance with the design provided and IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Testing and inspecting electrical installations in accordance with the current IEE wiring regulations.
  • Monitoring and ordering critical spares for all electrical services.
  • Other tasks as required by the Site.
  • Support both local and business zero‑carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner where appropriate.
  • Ensure H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Appropriate technical qualification eg City & Guilds 2365 parts 1‑3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above.
  • BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition.
  • Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution and installation and testing.
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Capable of working at heights.
  • Ability to work alone and use initiative.
  • Prison security clearance required (Amey will support you through this process).
  • Familiarity with IT skills and experience in fire alarm systems and CCTV systems is desirable but not essential.
  • We will sponsor you to upgrade to the 18th Edition if you currently hold the 17th Edition, terms and conditions apply.
Additional Information

Standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place. You will also work 1 in 3 weekends on a rota basis, receiving an additional 15% allowance.

The role will involve testing and inspecting electrical installations across prison facilities in accordance with the 18th IEE wiring regulations as amended from time to time.
