Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join their Bristol-based team, supporting project delivery across the Midlands, Southwest, and Wales.

Our client works across a broad range of sectors, including residential, commercial, education, healthcare, transport, defence, and energy. Experience in one or more of these sectors would be beneficial.

Responsibilities
  • Developing a clear understanding of project briefs and client requirements.
  • Design and specification of complete electrical building services systems, including power, earthing, lighting, life safety systems, telecommunications, security, access control, lifts, and lightning protection.
  • Producing and managing the delivery of detailed engineering calculations using industry‑standard software such as Excel, Amtech, Dialux/Relux, and in‑house tools.
  • Preparing technical specifications using NBS.
  • Working collaboratively with international delivery teams to add value to building services projects where appropriate.
  • Coordinating with the BIM team to support the production of models and drawings, with a working knowledge of Autodesk Revit.
  • Undertaking site surveys, inspections, and monitoring on‑site works.
  • Preparing technical reports and written documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate project records and archives in line with company procedures.
  • Adhering to all quality, environmental, and governance processes.
  • Managing personal workload effectively, keeping forward workload plans up to date and working within agreed time allocations.
  • Managing elements of project delivery with an understanding of cost and budget constraints.
  • Monitoring progress and reporting any scope changes, risks, or anomalies to the project lead.
  • Supporting the technical development and mentoring of junior team members.
Requirements
  • Degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status with CIBSE or IET preferred.
  • Strong IT skills, including experience with Amtech/Prodesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, and Microsoft Office; experience with HV tools is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency measures and decarbonisation strategies for new and existing buildings.
  • Understanding of energy and carbon data capture and performance analysis.
  • Awareness of building physics principles, including passive design and fabric‑first approaches.
  • Competence in design for measurement and verification, including commissioning and post‑installation performance evaluation.
  • Essential experience working within a design consultancy and/or contractor‑led design environment.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant technical standards and regulations.
  • Ability to take ownership of deliverables, make decisions, and work proactively using own initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to clients and attending meetings.
  • Comfortable working within agreed timeframes and cost budgets established at project outset.
  • Willingness to undertake additional reasonable duties as required to support business needs.
