EDUCATIONAL CO-ORDINATOR

International Medical Graduates (IMG) – 0.25 PA (1 hour)

Fixed Term for 12 months

Salary Scale - £111,430 - £148,064 per annum (pro rata)

Looking for a new and exciting challenge? Then think about working in NHS Forth Valley in the heart of Scotland.

NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic candidate for this Educational Co-ordinator position. Eligible candidates should currently hold a consultant post and have a strong interest in Education and a commitment to teamwork.

This post is for 0.25 (1 hour) programmed activity per week and is likely to take the form of a secondment from or in addition to a clinical appointment. Appointment and the salary are in accordance with the nationally agreed salary scales. There are no clinical duties within this post. Duties will be based mainly at the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors (SCSC HF) within Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

The post holder will become an integral part of IMG-related programmes that are being tested and developed at SCSC HF. These include:

  • Enhanced induction and monthly ongoing support sessions
  • Targeted Programmes: Stepping into Leadership – for new Medical Registrars
  • TIES (Training for IMG Educational Supervisors) – tailored support for supervisors of IMGs
  • Being Bystander workshops – immersive training to tackle discrimination and promote allyship amongst the broader healthcare team

The centre has also been using bespoke one-to-one simulation support for IMG doctors, and we would like to explore how this might be particularly useful for those with diagnosed or undiagnosed neurodivergence.

To sustain and expand this work, a dedicated faculty development “bolt on” module is being created in 2026 to upskill educators involved in IMG-related simulation. This will help build a network of IMG-aware faculty across Scotland – including IMG doctors themselves – ensuring inclusive, consistent, and high-quality delivery.

By publishing and sharing outcomes nationally and internationally we have seen Scotland come to the fore of inclusive, evidence-based support for IMG doctors.

Applicants are encouraged to visit the SCSC HF and meet key staff. Informal enquiries should be directed by telephone to Dr Julie Mardon, Director, SCSC HF, Forth Valley Royal Hospital (01324 567412). Details of previous post holders contact details may be available on request.

You can look forward to a warm welcome and strong support from colleagues. Our hospital is situated in the heart of Scotland, nestled against the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and close to vibrant towns that are richly endowed with excellent cultural and sporting facilities, offering good transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

To apply for this post, please visit the job posting on the NHS Scotland Recruitment website. Applicants should have full GMC registration and a licence to practise.

Applicants must possess or be within 6 months of their CCT and if applying under the portfolio pathway, your name must be entered onto the GMC Specialist Register at the time of application to be eligible to apply. Applicants are required to have evidence of recent continued academic and professional development. Excellent, communication, listening and organisational skills are essential.
