Job Title

Electrical Design Engineer

Location

Warrington

Purpose of the Role

As Design Engineer you will be an important member of the Engineering Design Team and will be required to work with the Design Manager(s) and Design Leads to deliver design to the highest quality to GT process and in compliance with the BMS and H&S Regulations. This is a technical role, engaged directly on projects, which requires proficiency in technical design delivery in the water and wastewater industry. The Design Engineer can have line management responsibility for discipline graduate/assistant engineers if required. As well as assisting with innovations, you will be expected to fulfil engineering governance requirements of your design activities, ensuring that design integrates with the other discipline design production activities, providing technical support to the supply chain procurement activities and supporting site activities as required. You will also be expected to support the development of the discipline graduate/assistant engineers.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Provide technical compliance and quality on design outputs.
  • Assist project team in seeking optimal solutions/efficient designs that balance capital and operational cost benefits.
  • Adhere to procedural governance.
  • Work as part of the Design team to ensure scheme designs adhere to client specifications and standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation.
  • Technical problem solving throughout the project life cycle (e.g. from concept design through to final construction support), moreover, to ensure that potential issues are identified, mitigated and or safely managed through technical governance and risk and opportunity management.
  • Assist with pre-contract design activities where required.
  • Actively work towards accreditation with professional bodies (e.g. ICE, IET, IMechE, IChemE).
  • Provide leadership, direction and encouragement to junior members of the design team.
  • Drive and deliver results, with attention to detail, strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to embrace innovations to assist the business.
  • Organise and prioritise workload to ensure timescales are met.
  • Support personal development and enable the learning of others.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Proficient with AMTECH, AutoCAD/Draftsight.
  • Proficient in generating electrical installation packs, including cable calculations, single line diagrams, cable block diagrams, termination details, cable schedules & communication networks.
  • Proficient in developing control philosophies, URS and FDS documents (where applicable) to client briefs and specifications.
  • Proficient in generating LV earthing schematic.
  • Knowledge of C&G 2382-18 BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations & NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificates.
  • Educated to Degree level in Engineering or other equivalent qualification.
  • Chartered with/or Member of a professional Engineering body – preferable but not essential.
  • Proficient in a contracting / consulting environment, with commercial awareness.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good IT skills – experience of using Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Focus to drive and deliver results with a flexible attitude to work.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and willingness to embrace innovations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a demonstrated pride in work.
