Job description
Purpose of the Role

The DNO Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of Distribution Network Operator (DNO) applications, grid connections, and approvals for solar PV installations across the clients portfolio.

The role ensures that all projects are compliant with UK electrical regulations and that grid connection processes are delivered efficiently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all communication with DNOs for solar and renewable energy projects (including G99, G100, and G59 applications).
  • Prepare and submit DNO applications and liaise to obtain grid connection offers and approvals.
  • Review and interpret grid connection conditions and ensure compliance with DNO and Ofgem regulations.
  • Coordinate with design, project, and installation teams to ensure technical requirements align with DNO conditions.
  • Track and manage the progress of DNO applications to meet project timelines.
  • Lead on grid connection negotiations, costs, and connection agreements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communication logs with all DNOs.
  • Support feasibility assessments and project development by providing DNO and grid input.
  • Keep up to date with changes in DNO requirements, grid standards, and industry legislation.
  • Report regularly to senior management on project connection status, risks, and resolutions.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a DNO, grid connection, or network management role within the solar, electrical, or renewables sector.
  • Strong understanding of UK DNO processes (G99, G100, G59, G83).
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with network operators and internal teams.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and DNO connection agreements.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and project management tools.
  • Familiarity with Ofgem, ENA standards, and IET wiring regulations.
Desirable Skills
  • Electrical engineering qualification (HNC / HND or Degree).
  • Experience working with large-scale commercial or utility-scale solar PV projects.
  • Knowledge of battery storage and EV infrastructure connections.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or grid modelling software.
  • Previous experience liaising with multiple DNOs (UK Power Networks, Western Power, Scottish Power, etc.).
