Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Director - HV Cable System Design to lead the delivery of HV/EHV cable projects up to 400 kV for the Power & Energy portfolio in the UK. You will drive design delivery from tender through handover, overseeing technical specifications, calculations and interface coordination with clients and subcontractors.

The role requires extensive HV/EHV cable design experience, CYMCAP expertise, and familiarity with National Grid/DNO standards.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
• Experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
• Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
• Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
• Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
• Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
• Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems for HVAC and HVDC.
• Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes.
• Working as CDAE and TP141 authorisation.

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design, estimation and site supervision.
• Provide technical support on HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant/equipment specs, power cable route specs, tender specs, progress reports.
• Interface with other engineering functions; attend meetings with clients and subcontractors.
• Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating, TMF/EMF, sheath-induced voltage.
• Conduct design reviews and verification of designs.
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and company procedures.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain relations with client/designer/team and supply chain.
• Ensure drawings/specifications contain sufficient information for construction; request missing data timely.
• Verify inspection/test plans per PMP/Specification; support FAT.
