Job description

We are seeking experienced and compassionate clinicians to join our brand-new Cancer Contact Centre, a centralised, telephone-based service designed to provide a single, reliable point of contact for patients referred on a suspected cancer pathway.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new, patient-centred service that will transform how people experience the earliest and most uncertain stages of their cancer journey.

As a Diagnostic Nurse Practitioner, you will provide clinical advice and emotional support to patients and families, ensuring their queries are answered with clarity, empathy, and professionalism. Working within a multidisciplinary team that includes Cancer Navigators and administrative staff, you will guide patients through diagnostic pathways, liaise with clinical teams, and identify opportunities to streamline communication and improve outcomes.

We are looking for highly motivated registered nurses with significant experience in oncology, or diagnostics. You will have exceptional communication skills, confidence managing clinical uncertainty, and a strong commitment to providing safe, compassionate, person-centred care.

This is a telephone-based service with some remote working, offering a genuine opportunity to be part of an innovative model of care at one of the UK’s leading academic health science centres.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist clinical assessment and advice to patients referred on suspected and confirmed cancer pathways via telephone.
  • Act as a clinical escalation point within the Cancer Contact Centre, supporting Cancer Navigators and ensuring safe, evidence-based responses to patient queries.
  • Coordinate and review diagnostic pathways to ensure patients receive timely investigations and results, escalating delays or risks appropriately.
  • Deliver compassionate communication, offering reassurance, information, and signposting to supportive services, including psychological and financial support resources.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including consultants, CNSs, radiology, and administrative colleagues, to resolve pathway challenges and improve patient experience.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of the Cancer Contact Centre, embedding a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, audit, and education to maintain high standards of practice and support team development.

At Imperial College Healthcare you can achieve extraordinary things with extraordinary people, working with leading clinicians pushing boundaries in patient care.

Become part of a vibrant team living our values - expert, kind, collaborative and aspirational. You’ll get an experience like no other and will fast forward your career.

Benefits
  • Career development
  • Flexible working and wellbeing
  • Staff recognition scheme
  • Optional benefits including Cycle to Work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan and membership options for onsite leisure facilities
