Job summary

An innovative healthcare provider in Blackburn is seeking a Band 6 Dietitian for a part-time role (0.6 wte) with a focus on Diabetes care. This position offers the opportunity to cover outpatient services, work alongside experienced professionals, and contribute to student training. Qualifications

  • Preferable experience in Diabetes, but not essential.
  • Experience in clinical training and teaching of students or apprentices is desirable.
  • Ability to support clinical training for applicants with transferable skills.

  • Cover type 1 complex Diabetes outpatient caseload.
  • Provide a mixture of Dietetic clinics, joint Diabetes nurse clinics, and MDT clinics.
  • Work primarily at Royal Blackburn Hospital's Diabetes Unit.
  • Support, manage, and clinically supervise Band 5 rotational staff.
  • Participate in clinically assessing and teaching students.

Overview

Are you a band 6 Dietitian looking to develop or broaden your skills or looking for part time hours, a band 5 Dietitian looking for your first promotion? An opportunity has arisen due to a maternity leave for an enthusiastic Dietitian to join our innovative and dynamic Dietetic Department. We are looking for a 0.6 wte Diabetes Dietitian to join our Dietetic Diabetes team on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027. Candidates will be expected to work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Responsibilities
  • Cover type 1 complex Diabetes outpatient caseload (carbohydrate counting, insulin adjustment, insulin pumps and exercise management) as well as intermediate care for complex type 2 patients.
  • Provide a mixture of Dietetic clinics, joint Diabetes nurse clinics and MDT clinics with the Diabetes Consultants.
  • Work primarily at Royal Blackburn Hospital's Diabetes Unit, covering outpatient services across East Lancashire.
  • Support, manage and clinically supervise Band 5 rotational staff, support staff, and Dietetic students/apprentices.
  • Participate in clinically assessing and teaching students as part of the full student training programme.

About the Department

The Diabetes team is part of the wider Dietetic Department covering the hospitals and communities of East Lancashire, with bases in Royal Blackburn Hospital, Burnley General Hospital, and Brierfield Health Centre. The department has nearly 70 staff, 45 of whom are Dietitians, and is known for its innovation and development.

The department has good transport links to Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and beyond, and is close to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
