Development Producer/Researcher, Film & TV

We are seeking a development producer/researcher for film & TV. The Guardian is expanding our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) to develop content for adaptation to film & TV, granting SPE exclusive first-look rights to Guardian's journalism.

In this role, you'll work closely with the Editorial Director, Film & TV, to identify stories with strong adaptation potential, share them with partners, and support project progression. You will also provide administrative support to ensure smooth operations.

This is a 12-month NUJ fixed-term contract or staff secondment.

About the role

• Familiarize yourself with Guardian journalism across all formats, from investigations to features, to identify potential TV or film stories.
• Create a weekly newsletter highlighting promising Guardian stories for Sony's development teams.
• Support the Editorial Director and collaborate with editorial teams to surface stories early and shape their adaptation potential.
• Respond to Sony producers' requests, such as researching background material or preparing pitch materials.
• Assist with administrative tasks like project tracking, rights management, scheduling meetings, and maintaining stakeholder communication.

About you

• At least five years of experience in early-stage TV/film development, with the ability to contribute across genres and an understanding of market trends.
• Strong journalistic skills and storytelling instincts to positively influence the development process.
• Experience as a development producer or literary scout, capable of digging into stories and producing engaging pitch materials.
• Knowledge of content development workflows and intellectual property rights across media.
• Creative, adaptable, resourceful, organized, and proactive in turning ideas into action.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively, build trust, and bring diverse perspectives, especially encouraging applications from underrepresented groups.
