Job description
Detention Custody Officer (DCO) – Immigration Services – France

Locations: Coquelles, Calais, Dunkirk (juxtaposed sites).

Salary: £32,635 per annum.

Hours: 42 hours per week – 4 on 4 off rotating shift pattern.

Accommodation, meals, and travel is provided. You must be able to remain in France for the duration of your 4 on shift pattern, there is no provision to travel back to the UK during this period.

You must have a UK valid in-date passport or settled status in UK and must have held a UK manual car driver's licence for 1 year.

Responsibilities

Work in a holding room where you will ensure the safety and security of the residents in your custody.

No specific role experience or qualifications are required to be a DCO as full training and supported development are given. Experience of dealing sensitively with a wide variety of people who have been agitated, confused or angry would be an advantage.

You’ll begin your Care & Custody career completing a 4 week initial training course. This course may be in a separate location to the role.

Qualifications
  • UK citizen or Citizen of the Commonwealth with your own indefinite leave to remain (not through marriage) or EEA citizen.
  • Valid and in-date passport, with no restrictions on your stay in the UK.
  • Continuously resided in the UK for the previous 3 years with no more than 3 months spent overseas at any one time.
  • Be over 21 years of age.
  • Full UK manual driving licence with at least 12 months post qualifying experience.
  • Fewer than 7 points on your UK Driving Licence.
  • Have not been subject to a driving ban within the last 12 months (from date of ban ending).
  • Not currently bankrupt.
  • The position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act; Successful candidates will be required to undergo Enhanced DBS and vetting to a level of Counter Terrorist Checked (CTC).
Training

Once you have passed our selection and vetting process, you’ll begin your Care & Custody career completing a 4-week initial training course (ITC), continuing your development over the next 12 months with on the job mentoring and assessments to gain our accredited Level 3 apprenticeship in Detention and Custody.
