Design Manager (Substations – Distribution)

Location: Hertfordshire (hybrid working)

Salary: up to £90,000 (+ benefits)

Position: Permanent

Turner Lovell are partnering with a leading UK utility infrastructure contractor seeking a Design Manager to lead multi-project electrical substation design delivery across DNO / ICP frameworks (primarily up to 132kV, with occasional interface to transmission).

This role will suit an experienced electrical design leader who thrives on managing and interfacing with multidisciplinary teams, driving design assurance, and ensuring safe, sustainable, and buildable design outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the electrical design management process from concept through to handover across multiple projects
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Oversee subcontractor design packages and manage technical reviews and approvals.
  • Interface with clients, design consultants, and construction teams to develop safe, compliant, and innovative design solutions.
  • Provide guidance on buildability and design integration to both design and construction teams.
  • Support tender development by ensuring accurate evaluation of design scope, budgets, programmes, and risks.
