A healthcare organization in Walsall is seeking a supervisory Decontamination Technician. The post holder will oversee the Decontamination Technicians and ensure the quality of service for medical device decontamination. Responsibilities include supervising staff, training new members, and ensuring compliance with health standards. Experience in healthcare and strong communication skills are essential. This position involves work exposure to medical devices and requires manual dexterity.
The post holder will be required to undertake supervisory duties within the decontamination science discipline and oversee the workforce of Decontamination Technicians in HSDU and EDU, providing a specialised decontamination of medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient. The role involves the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and where required sterilisation of reusable medical devices, and recording all tasks in the Trust tracking and tracing system. Work in accordance with the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems, and provide supervision and oversee training of new staff and Apprentice Decontamination Technicians within the team. Plan your own workload with limited supervision. The role involves exposure to blood and body fluids. The duties cover work within both Decontamination units at the Hospital, the Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit (HSDU) and Endoscope Decontamination Unit (EDU). The organisation is Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, providing NHS acute care in Walsall and operating from the Manor Hospital with various facilities and recent developments in emergency and clinical spaces.
