Responsibilities

  • Rack and install new hardware, patch and test cabling, and complete installation checklists.
  • Safely decommission equipment, process media according to security protocols, and update records.
  • Update DCIM (Nlyte) records for all Adds, Moves, and Changes and complete audits.
  • Conduct daily floor walks and health checks, raising issues as required.
  • Verify approvals, complete change tasks, document outcomes, and communicate results.
  • Respond to incidents and faults within SLAs, troubleshooting hardware / cabling issues.
  • Manage visitor access and ensure data hall security.
  • Provide clear handovers to ensure continuity between shifts.
  • Maintain stock levels, manage deliveries, and keep storage areas organised.
  • Update switch port records following changes or incidents.
  • Communicate rota or shift changes promptly and support shift planning.

Skills

Experience working in high‑risk environments and data centres

Data Center Engineer

Location : East Grinstead, West Sussex (RH19)

Employment Type : Full‑time / Permanent

Salary : £30,000‑£34,000 + 20% Shift Allowance (£36,000‑£40,800)

Days 08 : 00‑20 : 00 / Nights 20 : 00‑08 : 00

About the Role :

TGS International is recruiting on behalf of a leading technology integrator with over 30 years’ experience in delivering end‑to‑end connectivity solutions. The organisation provides infrastructure services ranging from structured cabling to managed services, supporting clients globally with reliable and optimised systems.

The Data Centre Engineer will work onsite within a prestigious client data centre, delivering IMACD (Install, Move, Add, Change, Decommission) services. Tasks will range from patching and fault finding to server installations, migrations, and full decommission / recommission work. The role involves shift work to support 24x7x365 operations and reports to the local Service Delivery Manager.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Rack and install new hardware, patch and test cabling, and complete installation checklists.
  • Safely decommission equipment, process media according to security protocols, and update records.
  • Update DCIM (Nlyte) records for all Adds, Moves, and Changes and complete audits.
  • Conduct daily floor walks and health checks, raising issues as required.
  • Verify approvals, complete change tasks, document outcomes, and communicate results.
  • Respond to incidents and faults within SLAs, troubleshooting hardware / cabling issues.
  • Manage visitor access, verify change windows, maintain temporary access cards, and ensure data hall security.
  • Provide clear handovers to ensure continuity between shifts.
  • Maintain stock levels, manage deliveries, and keep storage areas organised.
  • Update switch port records following changes or incidents.
  • Manage HDD / media destruction and asset retirement processes accurately.
  • Communicate rota or shift changes promptly and support shift planning.
  • Maintain office and storeroom organisation and identify opportunities to improve processes.
