Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is recruiting a Cover Supervisor for a specialist SEMH setting in Corby. You will supervise lessons in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students stay engaged while maintaining a calm, safe learning environment.

Candidates should have experience with SEMH or similar settings, and be patient, consistent, and able to build positive relationships with pupils who may present challenging behaviour. This is a long-term, full-time role with ongoing opportunities.

Are you confident working with young people who may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have a calm, consistent approach and the ability to build positive relationships with students who may have experienced barriers to education? Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for a Cover Supervisor to join a specialist SEMH setting in the Corby area. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to make a genuine difference to their education, behaviour and wellbeing.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising lessons in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain engaged with the work provided whilst maintaining a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.

You will work with students who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety, emotional difficulties, challenging behaviour and difficulties engaging with education. The ability to remain patient, calm and consistent is therefore extremely important.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supervising classes and delivering pre-prepared lessons
• Supporting students to remain focused and engaged with their learning
• Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
• Managing behaviour calmly and consistently in line with school policies
• Supporting students with emotional regulation and de-escalation
• Encouraging positive behaviour and attitudes towards learning
• Providing reassurance and support when students are struggling
• Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the wider SEMH team
• Providing feedback to teaching staff regarding behaviour, engagement and progress
• Supporting students on a 1:1 or small‑group basis where required
• Following individual behaviour and support plans
• Maintaining a safe, structured and nurturing classroom environment

Previous experience within an SEMH, SEN, alternative provision, school, youth work, care, residential or behaviour support setting would be highly beneficial. This could also be a great opportunity for someone looking to progress into teaching, pastoral support, youth work or a specialist education setting.
