Job summary

Are you passionate about supporting young people experiencing social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties?

Do you have experience working with young people who may present with challenging behaviour, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, low confidence or barriers to learning?

Tradewind Recruitment are working with a specialist education setting in Corby who are looking for a compassionate, resilient and dedicated SEMH Wellbeing Support Assistant to join their team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about children's mental health, emotional wellbeing and supporting young people who may struggle to engage with mainstream education.

The Role

As an SEMH Wellbeing Support Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. You will play an important role in helping students understand and manage their emotions, develop positive relationships and overcome barriers that may be preventing them from engaging in education.

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Supporting students experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation and behavioural difficulties.
• Developing positive, trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced difficulties within education or at home.
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and developing healthy coping strategies.
• Using a calm, patient and consistent approach when managing challenging or distressed behaviour.
• Helping students recognise their emotions and communicate their needs appropriately.
• Encouraging pupils to build confidence, resilience and independence.
• Supporting students to re-engage with learning and develop positive attitudes towards education.
• Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs and other professionals to provide consistent support.
• Contributing to a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where students feel valued and understood.
• Supporting pupils with their social development, communication and ability to build positive relationships.
• Following safeguarding procedures and maintaining accurate records relating to pupil wellbeing and behaviour.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

• Passionate about children and young people's mental health and wellbeing.
• Experienced working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs.
• Patient, empathetic and emotionally resilient.
• Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner.
• Able to build strong relationships with young people who may initially be reluctant to engage.
• Understanding of the impact that mental health, trauma and emotional difficulties can have on behaviour and learning.
• A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a wider pastoral and education team.
• Consistent, reliable and able to maintain professional boundaries.
• Committed to helping young people develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
• Experience in education, SEMH settings, youth work, residential care, mental health support, psychology, counselling, sports coaching or other relevant support roles would be particularly beneficial.
