Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment in Corby is seeking a Mental Health & SEMH Support Practitioner to work with pupils who have SEMH and mental health needs in a specialist educational setting. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to help young people manage emotions and engage with learning.

You will build trusting relationships, support emotional regulation, and work with teachers and pastoral staff to create a safe, nurturing environment.

Qualifications

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and mental health needs.
• Support young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation and challenging behaviour.
• Develop positive and trusting relationships with pupils, providing consistency and reassurance.
• Use your understanding of mental health and emotional wellbeing to recognise when a pupil may be struggling and respond appropriately.
• Support students to identify and develop positive coping strategies.
• Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and independence.

Tradewind Recruitment is working with a specialist educational setting in Corby who are looking for an experienced Mental Health & SEMH Support Practitioner to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a genuine understanding of mental health, emotional wellbeing and SEMH who wants to take their experience into a school environment. The school is looking for individuals who can build strong relationships with young people, understand the reasons behind behaviour and provide calm, consistent and compassionate support.

About the Role

You will work closely with young people who may experience a range of mental health, SEMH and behavioural difficulties, helping them overcome barriers to education and develop the skills needed to manage their emotions and engage positively with learning.

You will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and mental health needs.
• Support young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation and challenging behaviour.
• Develop positive and trusting relationships with pupils, providing consistency and reassurance.
• Use your understanding of mental health and emotional wellbeing to recognise when a pupil may be struggling and respond appropriately.
• Support students to identify and develop positive coping strategies.
• Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and independence.
• Support young people to understand their emotions and communicate their needs.
• Manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
• Encourage pupils to overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs and other professionals to provide consistent support.
• Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to appropriate wellbeing and behaviour records.

Who We're Looking For

The school is particularly interested in candidates who have genuine experience and knowledge of mental health and SEMH. You could have experience working in:

• SEMH or specialist schools
• Mainstream schools supporting pupils with additional needs
• Children's or young people's mental health services
• Residential children's care
• Youth work
• Behaviour support
• Counselling or therapeutic support
• Psychology or mental health settings
• Community support
• Sports or mentoring roles involving young people's wellbeing
