Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is recruiting for a Specialist School in Corby seeking a compassionate Student Wellbeing & SEMH Mentor to support learners with SEMH needs, helping them engage with education.

You will deliver 1:1 and small-group support, foster positive relationships, and collaborate with teachers and SENCOs to promote emotional regulation and resilience.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group SEMH support to pupils.
• Support pupils with anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation and behavioural difficulties.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils facing challenges.
• Help students understand and manage their emotions.
• Encourage coping strategies and resilience.
• Work with teachers/SENCOs to provide consistent support.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive environment and safeguarding records.

The Role

As a Student Wellbeing & SEMH Mentor, you will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them develop the confidence, emotional regulation and resilience needed to engage successfully with education.

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Supporting young people experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation and behavioural difficulties.
• Building trusting and positive relationships with pupils who may have experienced challenges within education or their personal lives.
• Helping students understand and manage their emotions in a safe and supportive environment.
• Supporting pupils to develop positive coping strategies and emotional regulation skills.
• Using a calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach when responding to challenging behaviour.
• Encouraging students to develop confidence, resilience, independence and self-esteem.
• Supporting pupils to re-engage with learning and overcome barriers to their education.
• Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs and other professionals to provide consistent support.
• Supporting students with social development, communication and relationship-building.
• Maintaining a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.
• Following safeguarding procedures and contributing to appropriate records around pupil wellbeing and behaviour.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

• Have a genuine passion for children and young people's mental health and wellbeing.
• Have experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs.
• Be patient, empathetic, resilient and emotionally aware.
• Understand the relationship between mental health, behaviour and engagement in education.
• Be confident supporting young people who may display challenging or distressed behaviour.
• Have the ability to build positive relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
• Be calm and consistent in their approach.
• Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Be committed to helping young people recognise their strengths and reach their potential.
• Previous experience in SEMH education, schools, youth work, residential care, mental health support, psychology, counselling, sports coaching or similar support environments would be beneficial.
