Job description
Overview

I am currently recruiting on behalf of a privately owned construction company that specialise in undertaking groundworks, basements and reinforced concrete projects who are currently looking for a Contracts Manager to join their team in the Hampshire area.

This will be to manage projects and teams on projects throughout the South of England. The salary is up to £90,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus a Fantastic Benefits Package, Company Van & Fuel Card. You will be reporting directly to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring the successful delivery of multiple projects (at least 4 at one time) and provide continuous live operational support for all labour, plant, material, subcontractor and client needs.
  • Responsible for projects to achieve safety, quality, programme and commercial targets.
  • Understand all aspects of the projects before work on site starts.
  • Promote and retain positive client relationships.
Health & Safety
  • Actively promote Health, Safety and Environmental issues, ensuring all sites are operated to the highest standards.
  • Prepare and/or have prepared all documentation required for the project including where necessary the Construction Phase Plan, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, COSHH Assessments, Project Manual.
  • Compile all necessary information for the main project Health and Safety file including O&M Manuals, submit as required and signed off by the Client. Ensure all company policies and procedures are being followed; dust, noise, HAVs etc.
  • Carry out a safety inspection on every visit and action all findings immediately.
Programme
  • Oversee production on site via site managers and other team members. Deliver projects on time and accurately report current position on programmes.
  • Work with the site management team to develop a short-term detailed programme (minimum 4 weeks), with all works fully planned. Update weekly with action lists for Labour, Plant, etc.
  • Assess current and future labour requirements – discuss at weekly operational meetings.
  • Interact with all other departments positively ensuring all needs of the projects are met (Commercial, Plant, Buying, Accounts, HR, Training, etc.).
Operational
  • Schedule and attend weekly Progress Meetings with clients and our site management. Record all key information weekly and save a copy in the company Site folder and issue to the client (very important).
  • Set up Site Manager to plan works before project commences; review drawings, details and specifications to create labour, plant and materials lists to ensure the site is set up.
  • Manage and control mobile gangs (engineers, concrete gangs, paving, tarmac). Manage day-to-day needs and forward workloads.
  • Ensure site management inducts every operative to the company induction. Plan all works and tasks on site at least 4 weeks ahead and keep updated weekly. Ensure every day is productive.
  • On every site visit, ensure operatives are inducted, the correct drawing register and drawings are used, tasks follow our Safe System of Works, all permits are in place, plant is inspected (ACCESS, PUWER & LOLER), QA processes followed, toolbox talks are carried out, appropriate signage is in place, safety equipment is used, and NCRs are actioned.
  • Ensure temporary works designs are in place and fit for use well in advance of need. Ensure Lift Plans (including Excavators) are in place and followed on every visit.
  • Attend mandatory weekly meetings at head office for labour and plant resource and planning, bringing required information.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Experience and knowledge of Groundworks, Basements & Reinforced Concrete.
  • Temporary Works knowledge and understanding (TWS/TWC).
  • CSCS Card.
  • Excellent timekeeping skills and ability to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Great listening, organizational and communication skills – face-to-face, via phone & email.
  • IT literate with experience using Microsoft & Bluebeam.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Strong technical ability – good working knowledge of building and construction.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Minimum of 45 hours per week.
