Job description
Overview

To provide accurate and timely financial and management reporting for construction projects and contracts, supporting strategic and operational decision-making. The Management Accountant will be responsible for budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and performance reporting across project portfolios, with a strong focus on work‑in‑progress (WIP) accounting and compliance with financial contractual obligations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly management accounts with project‑level variance analysis and commentary.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes for construction projects and long‑term contracts.
  • Track project costs, revenue recognition, and margin analysis, including WIP accounting.
  • Monitor and report on project KPIs and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with project managers, quantity surveyors, and site teams to provide financial insight and support decision‑making.
  • Ensure financial compliance with contract terms, billing schedules, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and improve financial controls and procedures related to project and WIP accounting.
  • Assist with audit and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to ERP and reporting system improvements.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Contracting directors.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support as required.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of WIP accounting, revenue recognition, and cost tracking.
  • Proficient in Excel and financial systems (e.g., COINS, MS‑365).
  • Experience with ERP systems and project accounting modules is advantageous.
Desirable Attributes
  • Experience working on large‑scale or multi‑phase construction projects.
  • Familiarity with contract compliance, financial governance, and construction accounting standards.
  • Involvement in process improvement or business transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of international accounting standards (IFRS/UK GAAP).
