Continuous Improvement & Modern Ways of Working Manager - Strategic Supply Chain

Hybrid: East Midlands, Scotland, or North East (with national travel)

Rewrite How Supply Chain Works - Not How It's Always Been Done

This role is for someone who thinks differently. Someone who challenges "the way construction and engineering have always done supply chain." Someone who can walk into a room and immediately see a better, smarter, more efficient way for teams and suppliers to work.

This major UK engineering organisation is scaling towards £1bn+ turnover while delivering nationally important energy and infrastructure projects. They're looking for a strategic supply chain leader who brings project management rigour, continuous improvement mindset, and modern ways of working – not just traditional supplier oversight.

If you're passionate about turning insight into action, building supplier capability, and driving meaningful change, this is your role.

Your Impact

You'll be responsible for creating quick wins AND long-term transformation across supplier performance, internal processes, and delivery practices.

This role exists to:

  • Challenge traditional approaches
  • Introduce structure, categorisation, and clarity
  • Strengthen relationships through capability-building
  • Make the supply chain a proactive partner, not a reactive function
  • Communicate the why behind decisions – not just the what

You’ll be the person suppliers and internal teams rely on to understand how performance drives outcomes - and what needs to change to achieve them.

What You’ll Lead
Continuous Improvement & New Ways of Working

Implement new operating rhythms, improvement initiatives, and tools that make supplier engagement clearer, faster, and more consistent. Identify inefficiencies and deliver tangible quick wins that improve internal workflows.

Data-Driven Performance Management

Introduce and mature category frameworks, segmentation models, and performance dashboards (Power BI etc.). Translate data into clear, actionable insights that guide stakeholders and influence decisions.

Supplier Enablement & Capability Building

Not just managing suppliers – but helping them become better partners. Set expectations, build trust, improve communication flows, and create practices that elevate delivery.

Project-Focused Supply Chain Support

Use strong project management principles to support forecasting, capacity reviews, risk mitigation, and supplier integration across complex engineering programmes.

Influence Through Clarity & Purpose

Explain the purpose behind initiatives clearly and succinctly, ensuring stakeholders understand the end benefit – not just the process.

Who You Are

You are not someone who keeps things running the way they've always been done. You are someone who improves them.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in supply chain or procurement within engineering, manufacturing, or construction
  • A clear track record of delivering improvements, initiatives, and efficiency gains
  • Ability to introduce new processes, categorisation methods, performance frameworks, or tools
  • Strong project management capability – structured, organised, outcomes-driven
  • A data-focused mindset and confidence in using analytics to guide decisions
  • Strong communication skills – succinct, purposeful, able to articulate the why behind change
  • Ability to build evolving, value-driven supplier relationships
  • Willingness to travel 2-3 days a week to sites and suppliers

This is for someone who can say: “Here’s what I improved, how I did it, and the value it delivered.”

What You’ll Get
  • £55,000 – £70,000 + car allowance + bonus
  • Flexibility and hybrid working
  • A team and leadership genuinely hungry for new thinking
  • Clear progression into senior roles as the organisation scales
  • The opportunity to shape how a major engineering organisation operates for the next decade
If you want a role where you can truly change things, not just oversee them – this is it.
