The post holder will be responsible for Older Persons Services, covering GP surgeries in the North Gwynedd (Arfon) area.
The role includes providing CPA reviews, ward rounds for inpatients in the catchment area, outpatient clinics, and medical input to the memory service. The post involves dealing with organic referrals for the catchment area. Graduates may be considered by agreement with adult consultant psychiatrists if they meet criteria for complex needs and are aged 65 or over.
The post holder is expected to comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and may at times attract a junior doctor, depending on availability in the training rota. Responsibilities under the Mental Health Act (1983) as a section 12/2 approved doctor may be undertaken if approved.
The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment, and management for people with cognitive impairments (including Young Onset Dementias) and those over 70 with functional illnesses. Transition arrangements are in place to develop an age-appropriate or needs-based specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) from the catchment area.
Within legislative frameworks, the post involves providing medical leadership to the Community Mental Health Team for the Elderly (CMHTE), consulting with Primary Mental Health Services for the Elderly, and managing a limited number of personal cases with Care and Treatment Plans. The role includes providing Consultant and Responsible Clinician services at Hergest and Cefni Units, and offering opinions under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act for patients in the catchment area. The post also involves preparing reports and providing consultation services to support long-term healthcare commissioning for patients from the catchment area.

Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable: Higher degrees in medical education, clinical research, or management; MRCPsych or equivalent; Welsh AC Approval.
Essential: GMC registration and license to practice; inclusion on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT; approved Clinician status or achievable within 3 months; approved S12 or achievable within 3 months.
Desirable: Good standing with GMC regarding warnings or conditions.
Essential: Training in core and specialist community psychiatry competencies.
Desirable: Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
Essential: Experience delivering postgraduate and multidisciplinary teaching.
Desirable: Experience teaching medical students.
Essential: Ability to initiate and undertake original work; experience with relevant audits.
Desirable: Research experience in relevant areas.
Essential: Commitment to providing specialist Older Persons Mental Health services; leadership skills; ability to work under pressure; good communication skills.
