Job summary

A leading health board in Wales is seeking a Consultant in Palliative Medicine to support St Kentigern Hospice and lead outpatient clinics. The ideal candidate will hold GMC Specialist Registration and have a solid background in Medical Oncology. Responsibilities include overseeing the MDT and contributing to a 24/7 advice line for healthcare professionals. Qualifications

• Must have GMC Specialist Registration or pending certification.
• Experience in a training grade post acceptable for Specialist Registration.

Responsibilities

Job description

Main duties of the job

• Being the lead clinician supporting St Kentigern Hospice, including weekly ward rounds and overseeing the weekly MDT. Supporting their Advance Nurse Practitioner team and hospice service development are additional aspects to this role.
• Holding a weekly outpatient clinic, within the Cancer Centre, for patients with malignant and non‑malignant diseases.
• Support the community team with domiciliary visits where clinic attendance is not possible or appropriate. Providing medical leadership of the Central SPC team alongside the named Band 7 Hospital Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) Nurse Lead, coordinating team cover and assisting with the prioritisation of workload.
• The post holder will contribute to the 24/7 SPC (Medical) Advice Line for Health Care Professionals (HCPs) in North Wales. The frequency of on call commitments is currently 1 in 8 participation for Saturday (9am to 9am) and Sunday (9am to 9am), as well as 1 in 8 participation for weekday evenings (5pm to 9am). This is a telephone advice line, open to HCPs throughout North Wales. It is not anticipated that face to face patient assessments would be required in the out of hours period, except in exceptional circumstances.
