A leading healthcare provider in Bradford is inviting applications for the Consultant position in Nephrology and General Medicine. Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Nephrology and General Medicine at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will work alongside seven whole time consultants, three part‑time consultants, a specialist doctor and an associate specialist, with a job plan that starts at 10 PAs.
The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in the whole range of nephrology services but the development of a special interest will be encouraged, also interests in education, research, audit and quality improvement. The post holder will contribute to the renal consultant on call rota (currently 1 in 9).
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides acute services for the City of Bradford and surrounding areas, and has two large hospitals – Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's Hospital. All main specialties are represented in Bradford and the Trust has a bed base of 900 beds. The Trust is a University Teaching Hospital as part of the University of Leeds Medical School and undergraduate education and training is regarded as a core activity alongside service provision. There are also opportunities for collaboration in both training and research with departments at the nearby University of Bradford and within the Trust at the Bradford Institute for Health Research.
The appointee will share with colleagues a responsibility for the management of patients who are under the care of renal services in Bradford. All modalities of renal replacement therapy are provided with the exception of surgical transplantation which is performed in Leeds and Manchester. Renal transplant patients are usually repatriated to Bradford at one week post‑transplant. The consultants provide an on‑call service to support the inpatient ward and the dialysis units, and provide specialist renal input to other services within the Trust and at Airedale Hospital.
The renal team also supports the management of general medical patients through taking responsibility for a number of general medical patients that are allocated to the renal ward following admission to MAU.
There are opportunities for the development of sub‑specialist interests and participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education. An active contribution to our audit and quality improvement programmes is expected.
