Overview

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (JPUH) is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Haematology. This is a permanent post 1.0 WTE covering 10 PA's based at the James Paget University Hospital, covering 5 days per week from Monday to Friday. On-call responsibility will be 1 in 5 with prospective cover for leave by the Consultant. The on-call period includes all hours outside Monday to Friday from 09.00 - 17.00 hours.

The final Job plan and detailed timetable will depend on both experience and interests of the candidate, as well as the needs of the department, and will be agreed with the Clinical Lead on behalf of the Divisional Medical Director within three months of the commencement date of the appointee. The successful candidate will be offered a 10 PA contract in the first instance. Additional PAs may be available to interested applicants. The mix of clinical sessions in the final job plan and rota will be agreed after discussion with the Clinical Lead. The weekly timetable will include the following mix of programmed activities.

Responsibilities and duties
  • Direct Clinical Care (including lab work, clinics, day ward, clinical admin): 8.5 PAs on average per week
  • Supporting Professional Activities (CPD/Teaching/Research/Audit/Clinical Governance): 1.5 SPAs on average per week
  • Share workload and input to the Anticoagulant, Antenatal Haematology and Transfusion services. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attendance and discussion of all appropriate patients at MDT meetings for Haematological Oncology and any other MDTs that may be set up.
  • Provide support for the pathology laboratory which functions as part of the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA), including attendance and participation in local and EPA level forums.
  • Participation in clinical meetings, postgraduate & undergraduate activities of the Trust, and teaching to UEA Medical Students in various modules.
  • Participation in the teaching & audit activities of the Department, including quality control in the laboratory.
  • Participation in clinical trials.
  • Provide a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for annual, study and professional leave. Short periods (up to 2 weeks) of sick leave will also be expected to be provided by the remaining consultants.
  • Share a 1:5 on-call rota Band A with prospective cover. Junior and middle grade support from within haematology are first on call during the on-call period.
  • Participate in Clinical Governance processes and in CPD.
  • Contribute to management of the service and, by agreement, take on the role of clinical lead in due course.
  • Comply with Consultant work programme (under provisions of Circular HC90/16) and the weekly timetable of fixed commitments (i.e.: regular scheduled NHS activities in accordance with paragraph 30B of the TCS).
