Job description

There are also seven anaesthetic associates working within our department. They work under the supervision of a consultant anaesthetist in line with the current RCOA recommendations in a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2. Twin theatre working is embedded in our rota.

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital offers many and varied procedures which this post can provide anaesthesia for. These include complex arthroplasty including revision surgery, spinal surgery (both degenerative and deformity), musculoskeletal oncology surgery and anaesthesia for interventional radiology. Successful applicants will have an interest in perioperative medicine, anaesthesia for complex orthopaedics and regional anaesthesia.

We also have consultants contributing to preoperative assessment, the High Dependency Unit, acute and chronic pain. We are in the process of developing an acute pain service to complement the critical care outreach service already in place.

Outside of clinical practice the anaesthetic department is heavily involved in delivering teaching for a perioperative medicine module for Aston University. There is also a strong presence within clinical governance, research and management within the hospital. We will encourage and support clinicians to develop their non-clinical interests within the hospital.

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest specialist orthopaedic units in Europe. We offer planned orthopaedic surgery to people locally, nationally and internationally.

Our Trust is a very special hospital; big enough to deliver world class services and small enough to offer exceptional patient and staff experience. We offer a working experience unique in the West Midlands and we're always on the lookout for passionate people to join our award-winning team.

We are a Disability Confident Leader and offer a range of inclusive, family friendly and flexible working arrangements and policies, to support our people in the workplace. Flexible working requests will be considered.

The Trust is committed to the Disability Confident Interview Scheme and will offer an interview to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
