Job description
Senior Construction Manager

As a Senior Construction Manager, you'll play a key role in delivering projects safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. You will work closely with planning and engineering and delivery teams to deliver against a programme of work, monitor progress, and communicate within project teams. A big part of the role is ensuring safety remains a top priority, driving zero tolerance for unsafe practices, and leading meetings to review safety, quality and progress. You will also support innovation and continuous improvement by adopting new ideas and best practice across the project. You will have responsibility for overseeing sub‑contract teams ensuring the delivery of the cable route for the substation connections.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver on‑site programmes and oversee subcontractor performance
  • Conduct regular site safety inspections across all organisational levels
  • Prepare documentation for client and corporate safety committees
  • Implement and monitor compliance with safety systems and site‑specific rules
  • Capture and share lessons learned and feedback
  • Chair regular meetings with subcontractors and clients
  • Participate in investigations of accidents, incidents, and near‑misses
  • Apply and maintain the Quality Management System
  • Action quality‑related corrective measures and report outcomes
  • Identify, report, and investigate non‑conformances per site protocols
  • Implement remedial actions and escalates lessons learned to the Senior Project Manager
  • Liaise with Site Engineering to ensure timely method and risk assessment documentation
  • Lead planning and programme sessions with teams and subcontractors
  • Flag design information issues affecting programme delivery
  • Review method statements and design requirements prior to construction
  • Manage interfaces between subcontractors, suppliers, clients and delivery teams
Technical Capabilities
  • Must hold a degree in Building/Construction Management or Civil Engineering with relevant building experience or a hands‑on route via apprenticeship or tools
  • IOSH/SMSTS or equivalent safety accreditation
Desired Skills
  • Has delivered projects of longer duration (typically up to 4 years) with clear objectives, potential for limited conflict, and a small number of key stakeholders.
  • Management of relevant documentation, subcontractor coordination, quality assurance and quality control
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experienced working on infrastructure projects
