We’re looking for passionate educators to deliver engaging modules and support international students through their learning journey.

Whether you’re an experienced teacher or starting your career, we’ll support your development with pathways to gain an accredited UK teaching qualification.

We are seeking an experienced Computer Scientist to teach modules across the courses delivered at the University of Sussex International Study Centre, working at one or all of the following levels: Foundation (Level 3); International Year 1 (Level 4); and Pre Masters (Level 6).

Our courses and VLE are well-established, so your primary role will be to make topics accessible to students who may have little or no prior experience in computing.

ABOUT THE ROLE
  • Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules and teaching sessions offered by the Sussex ISC
  • Prepare module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment
  • Mark students’ formative and summative assessments submissions and provide timely feedback to students on their performance, including writing regular student reports and tutorials
  • Notify and liaise with colleagues where necessary to ensure all students receive appropriate on-going welfare and progression support
  • Implement quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session level and contribute to the review of courses
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance and performance
  • Attend and contribute to standardisation, moderation and other quality assurance meetings
  • Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the programme and student life cycle
  • Participate in regular training and development activities
ABOUT YOU
  • A good degree, in computer science (or a closely related discipline)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the subject including current professional / vocational developments and the range of generic skills
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of general-purpose programming and software development
  • The ability to contribute to the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in computer science and related areas
  • Strong knowledge of Java or other object-oriented programming languages
  • A student-centred and client-focused approach
  • Strong record-keeping skills
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to be a performance-driven team player
  • Experience in AI, cybersecurity, or data science
  • Teaching qualification
  • Experience of teaching in UK higher or further education and experience of working with international students
  • Ability to develop and update teaching material and preferably experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment

Teaching experience preferred but not essential.
