Job description

We're looking for a Community Steward to join our Highways team based in Wellingborough. In this role you will be the eyes and ears of the community, representing North Northamptonshire Council and Kier while engaging with customers and stakeholders to the highest standards. Due to the nature of this position a full driving licence is essential.

Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire - site based 5 days per week

Contract: Permanent, Full time 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us

Salary: £34,909.18 - £37,307.17 per year + company van + benefits

What will you be responsible for?

As a Community Steward, you will work as part of the maintenance team, collaborating closely with the Operational Team and the Network Intelligence Operations Centre (NIOC). Your primary responsibility will be to assess and respond to public enquiries in line with KPI requirements, including emergency situations. You will categorise defects while considering the needs of all highway users, applying sound judgment to evaluate risks and potential consequences in a practical and reasonable manner.

Your day to day will include:
  • Carry out site visits and inspections because of enquiries received via our public reporting system and requests for service received from the Network Intelligence Operations Centre (NIOC)
  • Identify and control the key risks and hazards on site when undertaking inspections, completing minor repairs and issuing instruction for follow-up works
  • Respond to enquiries received for third party asset owners
  • Emergency Response attendance as requested. You will be the first point of contact to attend and assess any emergency incident on the network
  • Participate in our Out of Hours or Winter Service. This may include joining the out of hours rota or winter salting treatment
