Job description
Band 5 Community Staff Nurse – 9 Month Fixed Term

Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge within the world of District Nursing? The Hillingdon District nurses are looking for one band 5 RGN to join the DN team for a 9 month, fixed term position. So if you have been curious why not join on a temporary basis and see if its for you?

About the Role

You will need to be an NMC registered nurse who has enthusiasm, energy and a passion for delivering the best nursing care possible. Community experience is not essential but you will need to demonstrate that you have an understanding and awareness of autonomous working in the community setting, with evidence of some transferable skills. The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users.

Hours & Working Conditions

CNWL encourages a healthy work life balance. Hours examples as per below:

  • Full time (8am-4pm, 10am-6pm or 8am-6pm)

Please note weekend working is required – usually 1 in 3. Previous applicants within the last 3 months need not apply.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

Skills include but are not limited to:

  • Work as an autonomous practitioner
  • Diabetic management – monitoring of blood sugars and insulin administration; access to a specialist diabetic nursing team
  • Tissue viability/Wound care – leg ulcer, compression therapy, doppler assessments, VAC dressings, pressure ulcers, surgical wounds and many more; access to a specialist tissue viability team
  • Bladder and Bowel skills – male, female and suprapubic catheterisation, bowel care, continence assessments; access to a specialist bladder and bowel team
  • IV medication administration – care of PICC/mid line, preparation and administration of intravenous medications
  • Palliative care – support visits, symptom control, administration of anticipatory medications (stat doses and syringe drivers); access to a specialist community palliative care team
  • Drain care – rocket drains, nephrostomies, chest drains etc

As per national policies there is a growing need to deliver more complex care in the community to ensure local hospital beds are free for patients who are acutely unwell. Every day is different in community nursing and you will be supported to obtain a comprehensive set of skills to care for patients with a variety of needs.
