🏢 Community Manager - PBSA (Purpose-Built Student Accommodation)

deverellsmith delighted to be supporting a leading operator in the student accommodation sector with the recruitment of an experienced General Manager to take full ownership of a large, vibrant PBSA community in Coventry.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a proven leader within residential property, hotels, or property operational management to run an autonomous business unit, shape a thriving resident community, and deliver outstanding commercial and operational results.

The Role

As Community Manager, you will take full accountability for the property's performance-leadership, operations, financials, safety, resident experience, and community engagement. You'll set the tone, lead by example, and build a positive, high-performing culture within the on-site team.

  • Lead and motivate your team to deliver exceptional resident experiences and exceed customer expectations
  • Own local leasing and marketing strategies using market insights to maximise occupancy and revenue
  • Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, universities, and local groups
  • Drive community engagement through resident events and proactive service delivery
  • Manage financial performance including budgeting, forecasting, variance reporting, and P&L reviews
  • Ensure full compliance with policies, housing regulations, and health & safety requirements
  • Oversee maintenance, inspections, refurbishments, and the overall quality of the property
  • Support recruitment, training, development, and succession planning within your team
  • Maintain high standards across all aspects of operations including tenancy management and resident satisfaction
Who We're Looking For

You’ll be a confident, people-focused leader with a passion for delivering excellent service and creating a welcoming community environment.

Essential experience
  • Proven experience in PBSA, residential property management, hotels, serviced accommodation, or a similar operational environment
  • Strong track record of driving leasing performance and commercial results
  • Experience leading and developing teams
  • Solid understanding of UK landlord/tenant legislation
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritise, and remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills-both written and verbal
Knowledge & skills
  • Good general education and strong IT literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with property management software (training provided if needed)
  • Understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation (IOSH/NEBOSH beneficial)
