Job description

The role of the Community Imaging Attendant (CIA) is essential to safe and efficient patient flow and management across the department and at home. Responding to the needs of the service to provide support to patients and the clinician during the examination and supporting pre and post procedure care. They will be the main driver of the x‑ray car between the hospital base and patients' residence. A full driving licence is essential and the ability to use the in‑car sat nav appliance.

The successful candidate will be required to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, assisting in the smooth running of the community x‑ray car. The post holder will also be expected to provide support to the multidisciplinary team across the wider clinical imaging service to deliver high standards of patient care.

Main duties of the job
  • Drive the community x‑ray car and be responsible for carrying and assembling expensive X‑ray equipment.
  • Assist with manual handling/positioning and provide reassurance to patients, giving information about their procedures, managing patient expectation and helping to explain onward care.
  • Providing emotional and physical support to patients during their treatments, including delivering personal care and hygiene help to patients.
  • Reporting any faults with equipment to the radiographer.
  • Facilitate the throughput of patients attending the imaging department to optimise the use of all resources and minimise delays.
  • Support service delivery during weekdays, weekends, evenings and bank holidays as part of a roster, covering locations at RCHT and peripheral sites.
