Commis Chef

Salary: Up to £27,000 per annum

Location: RHS Garden Wisley

Contract Type: Full-time, permanent, site based, 5 over 7 days per week

As a Commis Chef, at RHS Garden Wisley, you will assist with all aspects of food preparation and organisation while learning new kitchen skills. You will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, following recipes, and upholding FSMS and H&S standards. Responsibilities:
  • Prepare ingredients and dishes to required standards.
  • Ensure freshness and correct handling of food.
  • Follow portioning guidelines and minimise waste.
  • Store ingredients correctly.
  • Follow allergen, hygiene, and FSMS rules.
  • Complete basic checks when trained.
  • Maintain a safe, clean workstation.
  • Use equipment safely with PPE.
  • Work collaboratively with the team.
  • Respond positively to coaching and feedback.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Ideally some experience in a kitchen environment, gained from being a kitchen porter or general assistant.
  • Passion for food and willingness to learn the culinary skills needed.
  • Basic food prep and knife skills.
  • Culinary qualification (desirable).
  • Good teamwork.
