Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced nurse in colorectal cancer and/or oncology nursing to join our colorectal cancer nurse specialist team. The GI Nursing team at UHS is a progressive, experienced and highly skilled team of cancer clinical nurse specialists. The team are at the forefront of nursing service development and nursing research initiatives both locally and nationally and have a fantastic pedigree which we are proud of as an organization.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide support and care to patients with colorectal cancer and their families, acting as the key worker and bridging the transition of care between specialty teams.
  • Work autonomously while being a good team player; possess excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Ensure treatment is delivered in appropriate time frames, in accordance with national cancer guideline.
  • Collaborate with all members of the MDT at UHS and in referring centres to ensure all patients receive the highest level of specialist care and support.
  • Support the MDT to deliver high quality, holistic care for all patients with proven and suspected colorectal cancer, from diagnosis to discharge.
  • Live the organizational values, foster a culture of learning, development and excellence in nursing care delivery, and deliver stratified approaches to care for patients with colorectal cancers.
  • Contribute to innovative projects shaping models of specialist service delivery for the future.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
  • Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register.
  • Degree qualification, 120 credits at L6 or equivalent knowledge assessed through evidence of relevant specialist training, experience or portfolio.
  • Significant post‑registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality.
  • Completion of all Band 5 (preceptorship) competencies.
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice or evidence assessed to be of equivalent experience, demonstrating support to a range of learners in practice and supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice.
  • Extensive post‑registration experience within specialist area.
  • Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service.
  • Understanding of personal accountability.
  • Multidisciplinary team working.
