Coating Technician

Location: Whetstone

Hours: Monday-Friday, Rotating shifts (mornings and afternoons)

Mon to Thurs - 6am - 2pm or 2pm -10pm

Fridays - 6am - 12pm or 2pm to 8pm

Pay: £28K to £32K per annum

Overview

Our well-established client in Whetstone is seeking a Coating Technician that will be supporting the coating department by operating optical coating equipment, ensuring high-quality production, and meeting on-time delivery targets. The role contributes to continuous improvement, process efficiency, and new product development while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate multiple coating processes and complete all required documentation accurately.
  • Inspect, measure, and assess optical components using spectrophotometers and other instruments.
  • Identify coating defects (e.g., spatter, striae, delamination, lint marks) and take corrective action.
  • Prepare optics for coating, ensuring cleanliness and suitability.
  • Select appropriate jigs and test pieces to optimise efficiency and meet quality requirements.
  • Safely strip optics and perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Identify and report issues with coating plants or measuring equipment.
  • Clean and reassemble coating chambers safely and effectively.
  • Adhere to quality control procedures, including ISO 9002 and relevant surface quality specifications.
  • Carry out ultrasonic cleaning and environmental testing to ISO/MIL standards.
  • Train colleagues in coating processes when required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
