Job description

Our client is a well-established precision engineering manufacturer based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The business produces high-quality, low to medium volume components for demanding engineering sectors and is investing in continuous improvement, capability growth, and leadership development. They now have a vacancy for a CNC Machine Shop Production Supervisor to take hands‑on responsibility for CNC turning and milling operations.

This is a technical leadership position, combining strong CNC capability with shopfloor supervision, production performance ownership, and continuous improvement delivery. The successful candidate will be a visible presence on the shopfloor, supporting programming and setting activity while leading, coaching, and developing a team of CNC setters and operators. The position will suit someone who enjoys being technically involved, takes ownership of results, and is motivated by improving efficiency, discipline, and output.

CNC Machine Shop Production Supervisor Responsibilities:
  • Lead CNC turning and milling operations, acting as the senior technical authority on the shopfloor and providing hands‑on support with programming, setting, troubleshooting and optimisation when required.
  • Take full ownership of daily production execution across CNC assets, ensuring machines are planned, loaded, set and running efficiently. Drive measurable improvements in OEE, spindle uptime, cycle times and overall equipment performance.
  • Identify and eliminate root causes of downtime relating to tooling, programming, material flow or inspection constraints.
  • Lead continuous improvement activity using Lean manufacturing tools to improve efficiency, reduce scrap and increase throughput.
  • Establish and maintain strong shopfloor discipline, clear job progress visibility and consistent production standards.
  • Lead, coach and develop CNC setters and operators, building accountability, capability and engagement within the team.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and performance management of CNC personnel, ensuring the right skills are in place to meet production demand.
  • Ensure machining processes consistently meet drawing, GD&T and quality requirements, supporting non‑conformance investigations as needed.
  • Promote a culture of right‑first‑time machining, safe working practices and continuous improvement.
CNC Machine Shop Production Supervisor Requirements:
  • Significant experience in CNC machining (turning and milling) with strong hands‑on programming and setting capability (Fanuc or similar).
  • Experience using offline CAM systems.
  • Proven track record of improving machine performance, efficiency and uptime.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring or supervising CNC personnel in a production environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a structured, data‑driven approach.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on the shopfloor and lead by example.
CNC Machine Shop Production Supervisor Benefits:
  • £60,000 - £65,000 basic salary (dependent on experience).
  • Performance‑related bonus linked to clearly defined KPIs.
  • Pension scheme.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Funded training and development.
  • Clear progression pathway into senior manufacturing roles
