Job summary

Penguin Random House in London is seeking a File Storage Specialist on an 18-month fixed-term basis. You will lead the migration of enterprise file storage to cloud solutions, including Box, while ensuring stability, security and proper decommissioning of legacy systems.

You will collaborate with Technology and application owners, document processes, and transfer knowledge to support teams. A strong background in NAS, Windows file services and scripting is essential.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with enterprise NAS and Windows file services (SMB/NTFS) and AD groups.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot storage performance and capacity in large enterprises.
• Experience delivering end-to-end storage migrations from discovery to cutover and retirement.
• Ability to validate data integrity, metadata and permissions during migration.
• Understanding of file/object storage and cloud or hybrid connectivity.
• Ability to map technical dependencies across apps, file paths, networks and identities.
• Experience using PowerShell or similar scripting for inventory, automation and validation.
• Familiarity with change, incident and problem management processes.
• Strong documentation skills and ability to create clear runbooks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Willingness to work in the UK and eligibility to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Build a detailed understanding of the existing storage estate including data, permissions, ownership and dependencies.
• Maintain secure, stable file services during migration and resolve performance issues.
• Lead storage migrations from discovery through data transfer, validation, testing and cutover.
• Manage permissions and access including AD groups and service accounts with data owners and InfoSec.
• Plan and safely deliver transition and decommissioning of legacy storage with rollback and sign-off.
• Maintain technical runbooks and transfer knowledge to support teams.
