Job summary

Penguin Random House UK is seeking an experienced File Storage Specialist to lead the migration of on-premises storage to cloud-based solutions, ensuring stability and security throughout the transition. This 18-month fixed-term role based in London involves collaborating with Technology and application owners, with a focus on data integrity and decommissioning legacy storage.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with enterprise NAS and Windows file services (SMB/NTFS) and permissions.
• Experience troubleshooting storage performance and access within an enterprise.
• Experience delivering storage migrations end-to-end (discovery to retirement).
• Experience validating data integrity, metadata and permissions during migrations.
• Understanding of file/object storage and cloud/hybrid connectivity.
• Ability to investigate dependencies across apps, paths, networks, and identity.
• Experience using scripting for inventory, automation and validation (PowerShell).
• Experience with change, incident and problem management processes.
• Excellent technical documentation and runbook creation.
• Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Build a detailed understanding of the current storage estate, including data, permissions and dependencies.
• Maintain secure, stable file services during migration and ensure safe retirement of legacy storage.
• Lead migrations from discovery through cutover, including testing and validation.
• Manage permissions and access, AD groups and service accounts with data owners and security.
• Plan and safely deliver transition and decommissioning of legacy storage with rollback where needed.
• Maintain technical documentation and runbooks; transfer knowledge to support teams.
