Job description

The Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is inviting applications for a Clinical Teaching Fellow.

Main Duties

This 12‑month fixed‑term role supports the delivery of undergraduate medical education teaching. Clinical Teaching Fellows work within a multidisciplinary team to create and deliver teaching within the clinical setting to students of the Hull York Medical School, including MBBS, Gateway and MSc students.

  • Preparation and review of teaching activities for HYMS MBBS
  • Teaching commitments including:
    • Ward‑based bedside teaching
    • Simulation (high‑fidelity 3G, virtual reality, digital table, 3D anatomy)
    • Small‑group classroom/seminar teaching
    • Clinical and procedural skills (e.g. suturing, fundoscopy, otoscopy)
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of HYMS curricula and delivery
  • Examination in formative and summative assessments (e.g. OSCEs, OSLERs)
  • Provide pastoral support where required
Shift and Professional Development

Post holders are encouraged to include a fixed clinical shift as part of their working week; typically a 4:1 teaching to clinical split. The clinical shift may be in various medical or surgical departments and will be the same area for the contract duration.

The Trust encourages participation in postgraduate courses in Health Professions Education. An educational study budget of £500 (pro‑rata) is available.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registerable Medical Degree (e.g. MBBS or equivalent)
  • Full RCUK‑approved ALS certification
  • Postgraduate education‑related qualification (e.g. PGCert)
  • Full registration with the GMC and a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Minimum of 24 months experience in a clinical, patient‑facing NHS role at the time of appointment
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to Foundation Year 2, able to offer clinical opinion at CT1/ST1 level or above

  • Ability to organise and deliver teaching across the undergraduate curriculum
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and evidence of previous successful activity
  • Strong commitment to HYMS pedagogical philosophy and practice
