Job summary

A National Health Service provider is inviting applicants for a permanent role in the Blood Sciences department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The successful candidate will support the professional clinical laboratory service primarily within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories. Key responsibilities include specimen handling, laboratory operation, and patient data entry. The role requires good keyboard skills and the ability to work under pressure. Experience in a hospital laboratory is desirable. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday with potential for weekend duties.

Job description
Overview

Applicants are invited for a permanent post based within the Blood Sciences departments at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The successful applicant will provide a supporting role to the professional clinical laboratory service. This post will primarily be within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories; however may be required to support in other areas when required.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and label specimens and distribute to the relevant department.
  • Carry out preparatory procedures on samples.
  • Basic operation of laboratory equipment including regular cleaning.
  • Input patient’s details into the lab computing system to a high degree of accuracy.
  • Input stock orders into the finance computer system and general stock keeping duties.
  • Handle enquiries from service users and members of the public.
  • Carry out transfusion blood stock management.
  • Carry out appropriate blood component/product checks.
Qualifications

You will require good keyboard skills, the ability to work accurately under pressure and a flexible approach to work. Standard grade / National 4/5 in English and a Science subject are required. Previous experience of working in a hospital laboratory is desirable.

Working Hours

The lab operates a 24‑hour service. Standard working hours will primarily be Monday to Friday between 8:45 AM and 9:00 PM; however, this may be adjusted based on service needs and may include weekends and out of hours when required.
