Clinical Specialist Eating Disorders Nurse

The closing date is 08 December 2025

  • To provide expert clinical nursing care (directly or indirectly with patients.
  • To adopt a lead role in the provision of evidence-based interventions in eating disorders across the age range.
  • To provide professional leadership and consultancy.
  • To provide education, training and development in the field of expertise to other staff.
  • To contribute to practice and service development and evaluation.
  • To lead and contribute to audit and research.
Main duties of the job
  • To work between Coventry and Warwickshire child and adolescent mental health eating disorders service and acute paediatric services to understand and meet the needs of children and young people with an eating disorder.
  • To provide specialist care to children and young people with an eating disorder within a paediatric setting and work with professionals to monitor the physical risks and provide robust assessments and management plans.
  • Manage the needs of multiple patients within a paediatric setting, aiming to support the paediatric team to stabilise and discharge patients in a timely manner.
  • To provide expertise and specialist advice, supervision, guidance and consultation to other professionals delivering evidence-based interventions and to contribute directly to patients' assessment, treatment, review and discharge.
  • Make decisions where precedents do not exist, where appropriate without recourse to others, and to advise and support colleagues where standard protocols do not apply.
  • Draw on advanced knowledge and exercise professional skills of the highest order, some of which are likely to be highly specialist, acquired only after lengthy training, supervision and practice.
  • Complete advanced history taking, and physical examinations as required with patient group.
  • Regularly undertake clinical supervision for specialist practice area.

Job responsibilities

Please note the attached job spec is for a 8a nurse, however, extensive experience of working in Eating Disorders is a must for the role.

Qualifications
  • Qualifications of relevance to mental health specifically children and young people.
  • Registered with NMC
  • Post graduate education at Masters level in advancing practice with a minimum of 3 completed modules
Knowledge and Skills
  • Must possess and demonstrate highly developed clinical skills with evidence of working within Children and Young People with Eating Disorders
  • Must be able to demonstrate highly developed personal management skills including time management, prioritising, planning
  • Must be able to demonstrate operational judgements, managing conflicting views / reconcile inter and intra professional differences of opinion
  • Must be able to contribute to supervisory process for junior staff and learners
Experience
  • Must have extensive experience following registration.
  • Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development activity to facilitate ongoing competence
  • Experience in the management of children and young people presenting with high levels of distress and risk
