East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust is recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Anticoagulation. The closing date is 12 February 2026.

We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both the patients and their relatives; to assist in the development and maintenance of the Anticoagulant Service within East & North Herts NHS Trust.

The post holder will provide a patient focused service to include assessment, treatment, education and follow-up services for this specific patient group; working with the anticoagulation medical and laboratory team and liaising with Primary Care.

In addition, you will receive a High-Cost Area Supplement of 5% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,303 and a maximum payment of £2,198 per annum pro rata.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will act as an autonomous practitioner and will utilise advanced skills of assessment, interprets complex psychological, physiological, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs.

They will enable patient choice and involvement and initiates appropriate action.

The post holder will plan specialised programmes of care and ensures each patient is placed in the correct treatment pathway.

To review patients independently and initiates changes in management of care and ensure that effective communication is maintained both within the unit itself and with relevant external agencies or individuals.

The post holder will provide specialist advice in the area of Anticoagulation to all health care staff through provision of evidence based advice, guidance and policies to improve the quality of care.

Qualifications/Training
  • 1st level Registered Nurse
  • Non-Medical Nurse Prescriber
  • Evidence of Leadership/ Coaching Courses
  • Mentorship & Preceptorship in the clinical area course or equivalent.
Previous Experience
  • Demonstrable post registration experience in an acute healthcare setting
  • Demonstrable interest in and in the commitment to the professional development of others, coaching and has experience of performing staff appraisals
  • Demonstrate experience working in a Band 6 post or above i.e. a nurse specialist role
  • Ability to carry out reviews of patients independently and initiates changes in management of care
  • Demonstrable experience of managing audit activity including clinical observations, reporting, development of action plans and follow-up
  • Demonstrable interest and involvement in Anticoagulation/ Thrombosis in the healthcare setting
  • Demonstrate experience working in a Band 6 post or above i.e. a nurse specialist role
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering education and training
Skills
