Clinical Lead Nurse - Maternity Cover - 12-month contract

Are you an experienced RVN looking for a leadership role with no HR or rotas to do? We have an exciting opportunity for a maternity cover role to join our hospital practice. You’ll work in a well‑equipped hospital environment with a strong focus on providing contextualised patient care, teamwork, and professional development. You will be working very closely with Practice Owner RVN Davinia to run the nursing team of 30.

Our state‑of‑the‑art hospital has been open since October 2022. It has 3 theatres, a dental suite, X‑ray room, ultrasound room, treatment/laboratory room, a dedicated room for euthanasia’s, a large colleague area with the mod cons, a quiet zone for colleagues, luxury patient wards with CASCO heated kennels, separate dog and cat wards, a dog wash facility, 10 consulting rooms, separate dog and cat waiting room area, a large meeting room, plenty of office space and bedrooms for the OOH colleagues, and an outside quiet grass area to sit and enjoy your breaks. We are a busy hospital that covers 13 other out‑of‑hour clinics around Northamptonshire.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Running the prep area, theatre and wards
  • Organising the operations list with the operating team of vets and nurses
  • Managing the workflow to maximise efficiency and patient care
  • Delegating roles in wards depending on workload and patient numbers
  • Supervising emergencies being booked in and admitted
  • Assisting in wards and theatre with complex cases and procedures
  • Organising the patient journey through the hospital
  • Working closely with the vets and supporting them as needed in all areas
  • Supervising hygiene and cleaning in all aspects of the hospital
  • Overseeing the laboratory
  • Working with the nurse practice owner on equipment issues, and clinical stock levels
  • No rotas, reviews or admin tasks
What we’re looking for:
  • An organised leader who can multitask and adapt to workload changes during the shift
  • Experienced in all aspects of nursing to support students and other RVNS in complex tasks
  • Efficient, able to prioritise and direct the team in a fast paced hospital
  • Excellent patient care and communication skills
  • Someone who wants to remain hands on in the role
  • Clinical coach – this can be accommodated if you wish to be involved in training SVNs
Key facts:
  • Hours – Full time 38 or 40 hrs
  • 4 day working week, shift time of 8am-6.30pm or 8am-6pm
  • No weekends
