Job description
Clinical Fellow in Sleep & Ventilation, Respiratory Medicine

The closing date is 11 December 2025

This post is a great opportunity to develop sub‑specialty expertise in adult respiratory sleep and ventilation medicine, providing care for out‑patients on home respiratory support, and contributing to departmental quality improvement projects and training in a strong clinical and academic environment. Outpatient activity includes sleep and ventilation clinics, day‑unit assessment of patients under consideration of home NIV or cough‑assist provision, reporting respiratory sleep studies, and providing specialist advice for in‑patients using acute non‑invasive ventilation.

The postholder will work with the Respiratory team providing in‑patient care on the Osler Respiratory ward during Mon to Fri day‑time blocks approximately once a week, plus an evening and weekend on‑call commitment that is non‑residential overnight. A substantial proportion of in‑patients are on acute or home NIV, thereby providing experience across the full breadth of respiratory support for patients with ventilatory failure. There are 2-3 sets of General Medical night duties per annum.

There is an active Departmental educational programme, with a weekly journal club, educational meeting and radiology MDT, in addition to case‑based learning and development.

Main duties of the job
  • Sleep and Ventilation outpatient clinics
  • Day Case patient review for ventilator dependent or at‑risk patients, and for those initiating home non‑invasive ventilation or cough assistance
  • Specialist referral triage
  • Respiratory sleep study and oximetry reporting
  • Management of non‑face to face patient care
  • Provision of specialist advice for Respiratory and General Medical patients on acute non‑invasive ventilation
  • Contribution towards undergraduate and postgraduate training in Sleep and Ventilation
  • Contribution towards Service Development and Governance
  • Contribution to current sleep research projects
  • Administrative and secretarial support for these tasks (supervised training and formal review at start and mid‑way through post)
